The Martin TR4501 is a rare jazz trombone developed in the late 1970s in collaboration with the legendary Urbie Green. Produced by Martin under the Leblanc name, this model was discontinued after the company was acquired by Conn-Selmer. It has since become a sought-after piece for jazz collectors and working players alike.

This example features an 8" lightweight yellow brass bell, a nickel silver handslide with yellow brass end crook, and a distinctive curved Earl Williams-style hand brace. The bell section also includes a gold-finished brace tube located just below the tuning slide—a unique touch to this custom-inspired setup.

This particular horn came from the original owner and has been freshly cleaned and serviced in our shop. A few minor dents were removed, and there is evidence of previous cosmetic repair, but overall it’s in excellent playable condition. The handslide is extremely light and fast, very much in the spirit of the Shires Mike Davis setup—featuring a thin, ergonomic cross brace for improved grip and control.

Tonally, this horn shines in jazz combos, big bands, and solo work—especially when amplified or played in intimate acoustic settings. The sound is sweet and clear with excellent projection in the upper register, and it responds easily across the full range. It’s especially well-suited for ballads, lead jazz work, or doubling situations that call for a lighter feel.

Includes a clean, non-original case. No additional service is required—this TR4501 is fully ready to play.
