Lessons Taught by Father-Son Duo: Douglas & Jackson Bert
Douglas Bert and Jackson Bert bring decades of combined performance and teaching experience to their private lesson studio. Their deep roots in both classical and jazz traditions create a dynamic and well-rounded learning environment.
🎶 About Jackson Bert
Jackson began playing trombone in 5th grade — but there are family photos of him holding a trombone while still in diapers. That’s what happens when you grow up in a music house.
He attended Kirkwood High School, studied privately with Robert Settle and later with Timothy Myers (Principal Trombone, St. Louis Symphony). After his sophomore year, Jackson transferred to the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, studying with Tom Riccobono and Jonathan Lombardo (Buffalo Philharmonic).
After graduating from Interlochen, Jackson went on to study at the New England Conservatory in Boston under Norman Bolter (Boston Pops, Boston Symphony Orchestra).
Today, Jackson lives in St. Louis, part time at The Brass Exchange, teaches private trombone lessons, and performs professionally throughout the region.
🎵 About Douglas Bert
Douglas began playing trombone at age 10. His teachers included Robert Settle, Bernard Schneider (Principal Trombone, St. Louis Symphony 1956–1988), Lewis Van Haney (New York Philharmonic), and legendary jazz educator David Baker (Indiana University).
Doug is best known as a jazz and commercial trombonist, but also plays and teaches classical trombone. He’s passionate about helping both young students and adult players grow their skills and enjoy playing the instrument for life.
