Overview
The Yamaha YSL-350C is one of Yamaha's more unique trombone designs, combining compact dimensions with innovative functionality. Originally developed for younger players and musicians with shorter arm reach, the YSL-350C has also earned a following among experienced players looking for a lightweight travel instrument or an interesting option for jazz improvisation.
This archived instrument featured an 8-inch gold brass bell paired with a .500"-.525" dual bore handslide. While compact in size, the instrument offers full Bb trombone capability along with an innovative rotor system that changes the instrument to the key of C.
Unique Compact C Design
Unlike a traditional F-attachment trombone, the YSL-350C utilizes a reverse Bb rotor. In its normal position the instrument plays as a standard Bb tenor trombone. Engaging the rotor lowers the instrument by one whole step to the key of C.
This design provides several practical advantages. Notes normally requiring sixth position can often be played much closer to the player, making the instrument especially comfortable for younger musicians. It also allows a pedal C to be played in first position with the rotor engaged. For jazz players, the one-step pitch change creates interesting possibilities for improvisation and alternate slide positions.
Condition
At the time of sale, this Yamaha YSL-350C was in excellent used condition with beautiful original lacquer and no mechanical or cosmetic issues affecting performance. The slide operated properly, and no service was required to improve either appearance or playability.
