The Yamaha YSL-356G is a dual bore tenor trombone (.500–.525) with an F-attachment and a rose brass bell, designed to bridge the gap between student and professional instruments. Produced from the early 1990s through 2000, it was a popular choice for advancing students looking for their first trigger trombone.
This pre-owned example underwent a complete shop service, including a chemical bath and full inspection, ensuring it played exactly as intended. The handslide was in very good condition, free from plating loss or mechanical issues. While there was considerable lacquer wear across the instrument, there were no signs of red rot and no loss of plating on the inner slide tubes. Structurally and mechanically, the trombone was sound and offered reliable performance.
The YSL-356G plays with the warmth and color associated with its rose brass bell, while the dual bore slide provides flexibility and projection. It takes a small-shank mouthpiece and was sold with a Yamaha mouthpiece included.
This model is especially well-suited as a first F-attachment horn for middle school or early high school students, or for comeback players seeking a versatile small/medium bore trombone with trigger capability.
This Yamaha YSL-356G is now preserved in our Archive of Sold Instruments, serving as a reference for musicians and educators researching Yamaha’s advancing-level trombones.
