This Yamaha YBL-830 Xeno is a superb example of Yamaha’s flagship professional bass trombone — offered here in excellent pre-owned condition. Serial number 705841 places it at about 5–6 years old, though it spent the last four years unplayed as a backup horn for a professional player. It shows no evidence of damage or repair, and arrived at The Brass Exchange exceptionally clean and well-maintained.
The YBL-830 is Yamaha’s top-tier bass trombone and a staple in orchestral and commercial settings worldwide. It features a 9.5" yellow brass bell that delivers a rich, commanding bass voice, and a .562" bore standard weight handslide for stability and depth of tone. The horn uses independent rotors in Bb/F/Gb/D configuration, giving players full access to the extended low register and flexible alternate positions. The valves are smooth, perfectly sealed, and extremely quiet in operation, while the handslide is fast, responsive, and perfectly aligned.
No shop service was needed beyond a final inspection, as the horn was already in top condition. It came with the original Yamaha Xeno hard flight case, which was also exceptionally clean. (Mouthpiece not included.)
This model is Yamaha’s current flagship bass trombone, and as of 2025, a new YBL-830 sells for well over $5,000, making this lightly used example a tremendous value at the time of sale.
