Overview
This is an original YBL-613R Yamaha bass trombone bell and valve section from the mid-1980s to early 1990s, featuring the classic Yamaha rose brass bell and independent Gb/D rotor layout. It is a fully serviced, player-ready component with all original lacquer and authentic Yamaha characteristics. No handslide is included, but this section is fully compatible with every generation of Yamaha bass trombone slides, including modern models such as the YBL-835.
This is not a “shiny and new” horn, nor is it meant to be. Instead, it’s an excellent value-forward option for players who simply need a dependable Yamaha bass bell/valve section, a second setup for school or pit work, or a warm rose brass voice without spending $4,000–$5,000 on a new instrument. Fully serviced here, mechanically sound, and ready for real-world use.

Player Perspective
From the player’s seat, this bell and valve section feels like a classic Yamaha: centered, balanced, and predictable. The rose brass bell gives it a slightly warmer, broader tone than yellow brass models, with a smooth upper overtone profile and excellent low-register color. When pushed, it still carries presence and shimmer—very much in line with Yamaha’s early professional-era voicing.
Because this is an older lacquered bell, the finish shows normal cosmetic wear from decades of use. This has zero impact on playability, but it does make the instrument a strong choice for musicians who prioritize sound and reliability over cosmetic perfection. For doublers, educators, working bass trombonists, or Yamaha players seeking a rose brass option, this is a very smart piece of equipment.
FAQs
Is a slide included?
No. This listing is for the bell and valve section only.
Will it fit my Yamaha bass trombone slide?
Yes. It is compatible with all Yamaha bass trombone slides, including 613R, 620/620G, 622, 830, and the modern YBL-835/835G.
Does rose brass make a difference on Yamaha bass trombones?
Yes. Rose brass tend to produce a warmer, more enveloping sound with a softer high overtone profile. It’s excellent for ensemble blending and gives a mature low-register presence.
Is this horn cosmetically perfect?
No. It has honest cosmetic wear, original lacquer, and normal surface scratches—but the mechanics, rotors, alignment, and structural geometry (neckpipe-to-bell) are straight, solid, and professionally serviced.
Condition Summary
This bell/valve section received a complete shop service: internal chemical cleaning, rotors removed and polished internally, rotor casings polished, bearings and stop plates inspected, linkage realigned, and tuning slides cleaned and fitted properly. The bell shows normal lacquer wear and surface scratches appropriate for an instrument from the late 1980s. Previous dent work was performed cleanly, and the bell remains perfectly round. The valve alignment and neckpipe-to-bell geometry are straight and true. Original lacquer is intact throughout.
Included with this section is the original auxiliary Db tuning slide, a rare and useful option from Yamaha’s earlier bass trombone era..
