Overview
This S.E. Shires T25LW medium bore trombone slide was a clean pre-owned component in very good playing condition. The T25LW is a lightweight brass slide in standard width configuration (not wide), paired with a nickel silver end crook for clarity and durability.
The slide had been professionally cleaned and serviced here at The Brass Exchange. Tubes were straight, alignment was good, and it played properly across the range. There was some typical lacquer wear in the grip areas from normal handling, but overall it was a very nice example of a Shires medium bore handslide.
Included were three removable Shires leadpipes:
β’ #1.5 small shank
β’ #2.5 small shank
β’ T2 large shank
This combination allows players to fine-tune resistance and response depending on mouthpiece choice and musical setting.
Understanding the T25LW Model
Shires slide model numbers describe bore size, width, and weight.
β’ T25 β Medium bore slide design
β’ LW β Lightweight construction (no oversleeves in upper positions)
β’ Standard width β Similar feel to classic medium-bore slides like Bach 36 or Conn 79H
Lightweight slides often feel quicker to respond and more agile, especially for jazz, chamber, and commercial playing.
The Brass Exchange has been an authorized S.E. Shires dealer since 2012 and has helped hundreds of players match Shires bells, slides, valves, and leadpipes into balanced modular setups.
Player Perspective
The T25LW is popular with players who want a medium-bore trombone that feels light and responsive without losing tonal depth. It pairs well with rose brass or yellow brass bells and works nicely in jazz, studio, and chamber settings where a .547 large bore might feel too heavy.
Many players compare medium-bore Shires slides with classic Bach 36 or Conn 79H setups but appreciate the flexibility of interchangeable Shires components.
