SHIRES

This S.E. Shires Custom small-bore jazz tenor trombone is presented here as a historical archive listing for players, collectors, and researchers.
It was originally sold through The Brass Exchange after careful evaluation and remains an excellent example of Shires’ craftsmanship for professional jazz players.

The instrument was a single-owner horn, played by a professional musician and kept in superb playing condition throughout its life.
It was less than 10 years old at the time of sale and had never been damaged or repaired.

The bell section is the 8-inch yellow-brass S2YLW8 model with an unsoldered rim, a configuration known for its lively, open response and often compared to the classic Conn 6H-style bell favored by jazz players.
The T08LW lightweight .508-bore slide, paired with a single removable leadpipe, offered the quick, free-blowing feel that many lead and small-group players prefer.
The slide was described as fantastic in action, free of dents or alignment issues.

Cosmetically, the only visible wear was modest lacquer loss on the slide grip and neckpipe, common on a well-loved working instrument.
The rest of the horn was in excellent original condition, free from dents, dings, or structural defects.
No case was included in the sale.

In the hands of the original owner, this Shires jazz trombone provided the bright, responsive, and colorful sound that makes the brand a top choice among modern professionals seeking a small-bore horn for lead, combo, or commercial work.

This page remains published as a reference for future buyers and researchers interested in Shires’ approach to custom small-bore jazz trombone design.
