This S.E. Shires 7GLW tenor trombone bell is a handcrafted lightweight gold brass model with an 8.5" flare and soldered rim. The soldered bead design provides a strong core, precise articulations, and excellent stability in the sustain of tone. Gold brass construction (85% copper, 15% zinc) offers a warm, rich timbre with excellent balance and flexibility, making it a versatile choice for both orchestral and solo performance.
As a Type #7 modified two-piece bell, it combines the stability of traditional two-piece construction with the responsiveness of a one-piece design. The LW (lightweight) designation ensures quick, resonant response with an open, brilliant character. This particular 7GLW pairs exceptionally well with a nickel silver slide for a lively, projecting tone, but also blends beautifully with a standard brass slide.
This example is approximately eight years old, but has been lightly played by a single owner and remains in mint condition with minimal signs of use. It is fully compatible with all Shires large-bore tenor (.547) valve sections and tuning slides, past and present.
