This S.E. Shires TY tuning slide was a pre-owned component in excellent condition, approximately 3–4 years old at the time of sale. It had never been damaged or repaired and was given a full chemical cleaning in our shop before being offered.
The TY model is built with drawn tubes and a standard taper, designed exclusively for use with S.E. Shires trombones. It is fully compatible with both Custom Series and Q Series models, but not with other brands, making it a specialized option for serious players refining their Shires setups.
One of Steve Shires’ original design concepts was to create a tuning slide that minimizes fine handslide adjustments in first position. For example, when moving from D (above the Bb tuning note) up to F, the TY slide reduces the need for micro-adjustments, allowing for more consistent intonation and smoother transitions in technical passages. This feature remains one of the most appreciated aspects of Shires tenor trombones.
The Brass Exchange is proud to be an Authorized S.E. Shires Pro Shop, offering Boston-built Custom Series components that standard dealers cannot provide. Regular Shires dealers are limited to the Q Series line, but Pro Shops give players access to the full modular Custom Shop system.
