SHIRES

Overview
This is a Shop-Certified pre-owned S.E. Shires Custom Series tenor trombone, fully serviced here at The Brass Exchange. Configuration includes the Trubore open-wrap valve section, 7YM medium-weight 8.5" yellow brass bell, Standard TY tuning slide, and TB47 handslide with one removable leadpipe. Components were selected from different periods, test-fit together, and play as a unified instrument.

Full bench service included a chemical bath, slide and valve inspection, alignment checks, and a one-over. Slide and valve action are fast and quiet. There are no defects affecting playability.

Component Notes
Trubore Valve Section – Approximately 10 years old, previously used in professional settings, quiet linkage, smooth sealed action.
7YM Bell – Near-perfect condition, original lacquer, never damaged or dented. Crisp Shires floral engraving.
TB47 Handslide – Previously orchestra-owned. Shows lacquer wear from use but remains in excellent alignment. Inner tubes clean with no defects.
TY Tuning Slide – Excellent condition, compatible across Shires modular setups.

The B in TB47 denotes a bass-end crook, similar to Bach, Edwards, and Greenhoe, offering a slightly broader feel and weight in the register.

Included
• Premium Marco Magi Italian Case – Exclusive NN-TRK variant for The Brass Exchange. Leather exterior, plush burgundy velvet padded interior, and backpack-strap option. Weighs ~7 lbs without instrument and travels well.
• One removable leadpipe
(Mouthpiece not included)

Player Perspective
This is an excellent all-around tenor for a high-level or professional player. The Trubore valve offers a more open feel with minimal resistance in low register work. The 7YM bell supports a wide symphonic sound that holds shape at volume, delivering an audition-capable voice with color and core. Would shine in orchestra, large ensemble, or principal duties.
