Overview
This S.E. Shires small bore tenor trombone was a clean pre-owned example in excellent playing condition. The setup featured an 8β³ Shires 7YM bell paired with a .500 bore nickel silver handslide and brass end crook β a classic configuration for players seeking a lively, focused sound with warmth and projection.
There was minor lacquer wear from normal handling, but overall appearance was excellent and the horn played easily with no additional service required. The slide was smooth and responsive, exactly what players expect from Shires craftsmanship.
This Shires .500 bore setup is a classic choice for jazz, studio, and commercial trombone players who want fast response with Shires modular flexibility.
Two interchangeable Shires leadpipes were included, allowing players to fine-tune resistance and response. The horn came with a new Marco Magi Italian case (S.E. Shires logo), a premium lightweight option for protection and travel.
Player Perspective
Small-bore Shires trombones are popular with jazz and commercial players because they combine quick response with the tonal flexibility of the modular Shires system. The .500 bore handslide feels agile for fast passages and expressive phrasing, while the 7YM bell provides balance and projection without harshness.
Many players who enjoy King 2B/3B or Conn 6H horns find small-bore Shires setups familiar but more customizable thanks to interchangeable leadpipes, bells, and slides.
The Brass Exchange has been an authorized S.E. Shires Pro Shop since before the Eastman acquisition, and weβve helped hundreds of players match Shires components into balanced professional setups.
