REYNOLDS

This early 1950s Reynolds valve trombone is a single-owner instrument that has been well cared for throughout its life. It has received a full professional shop service here at The Brass Exchange, including a chemical bath, new pads and felts, precise adjustments, and thorough play testing. The result is a horn that is fully playable as-is, with no damage and no need for further repairs.

The lacquered yellow brass bell retains its original finish, and the hand-fitted pistons show no plating wear. Valve action is smooth and responsive, with full compression for excellent efficiency and tone production. Bore size is in the .500 range, and the bell diameter is just under 7.5 inches — a classic medium-bore profile that delivers a laser-focused core with remarkable flexibility.

This instrument takes a small shank mouthpiece and would be an excellent choice for any player looking to master valve trombone, whether for jazz, brass band, or doubling work. Original leather-wrapped plywood case is included and remains in fine condition.

Players who know valve trombones understand the difference between an average example and a truly good one — and this one falls squarely into the “good one” category.
