Featuring all original lacquer and parts, the horn is in exceptional condition—free of blemishes, previous damage, or repairs. Bell engraving clearly displays the George Roberts designation, a hallmark of this legendary model.

The P-22 features a gold brass bell and nickel silver handslide, delivering a warm, resonant tone with remarkable clarity. The handslide itself is in excellent shape—perfectly straight and smooth, with no plating loss or alignment issues. It's ready to play at a professional level right out of the case.

This model was designed for the kind of big band and commercial studio work that George Roberts dominated throughout the golden era of recording. He famously played on thousands of albums and film scores—most notably with Frank Sinatra and on blockbuster films such as The Ten Commandments. For decades, Roberts was the go-to bass trombonist in Hollywood, known for his lyrical phrasing, velvet tone, and unmatched musicality.

He was once asked why he never switched to a double-valve setup later in life. His response:
"I always seemed to get along just fine with one valve and never saw a need to change."
This sentiment speaks to the elegant simplicity and functionality of the P-22—it gets the job done beautifully with just one rotor.
