This mid-1960s Conn 6H jazz trombone (serial number M02289) was built during the renowned Elkhart, Indiana era. It's been expertly upgraded with Greenhoe inner slide tubes by a highly respected brass technician, giving it modern responsiveness while preserving its classic Conn character.
The 6H is a .500 bore model with an 8" yellow brass bell featuring an unsoldered rim. The bell is in excellent shape, and the slide—nickel silver inner tubes, gold brass outer tubes, nickel oversleeves and end crook—shows only moderate lacquer wear. The handslide is free of tension and performs beautifully. It accepts small shank mouthpieces and includes original Conn leadpipes, which are favored for their centered and open feel. Best results tend to come from medium-to-small mouthpiece cups, though any standard small shank model will fit. (Mouthpiece not included.)
The Conn 6H is perhaps most famously associated with Frank Rosolino and was used widely by the Stan Kenton Orchestra trombone section. These instruments remain one of the most loved vintage jazz models today, prized for their balance, quick response, and lyrical sound. Once you play one in a combo or big band setting, it’s easy to understand why so many pros still seek them out.
Included with this example is a Marco Magi SR Series case in black with red trim—textured exterior, no zippers, three secure latches. These Italian-made cases are both protective and beautiful. We sell them new for $595, but if you'd like the trombone without the case, we can discount $400 from the total. Please contact us to discuss options.
