King Symphony Model 1480 Trombone – 1950 Vintage F-Attachment (Sold)
This is a King Symphony Model 1480 tenor trombone with F-attachment, built in 1950 during the highly respected H.N. White era in Cleveland, OH. The 1480 was King’s professional large bore model of its time, designed well before the introduction of the later 4B and 5B series. With a 9" yellow brass bell and .546 bore nickel silver handslide, it offered serious players a responsive and broad-sounding instrument for its era.
This particular example remains in very good condition. It has received full shop service, including a chem-clean, slide alignment and adjustment, and a new leadpipe for improved playability. The bell section and valve are original and structurally solid. While it shows signs of age, it remains a functional and musically satisfying trombone.
Although professional players today often opt for more modern designs with larger bells or axial flow valves, the King 1480 still appeals to vintage brass enthusiasts, hobbyists, and collectors. It offers a glimpse into the evolution of American large bore trombone design and performs well for casual use, especially when properly serviced.
Included with this instrument are a Gator molded case, mouthpiece, and basic lubricants.
