๐ Historical Perspective
This King 3B Model 2103 Trombone, built in the 1990s, represents a later production example of one of the most influential small-bore trombone designs ever made. The King 3B has long been known for its fast response, brilliant projection, and unmistakable tonal character in jazz and commercial playing.
This example remained in excellent structural condition with gorgeous original lacquer and no history of major damage or repair. It featured the classic 8" yellow brass bell paired with a lightweight .508 bore nickel silver handslide with trumpet-style water key. There was one small ding on the handslide end crookโtypical for soft yellow brassโbut it did not affect alignment or playability, and could be corrected if desired.
The slide action was outstandingโquick, smooth, and responsiveโmaking this an ideal working example of the 3B platform. Instruments like this are often chosen by advancing players looking for a dependable professional-level small-bore horn for jazz band, pit orchestra, and commercial work. Many players who normally perform on large-bore trombones also keep a 3B on hand for styles requiring quicker response and lighter feel.
This trombone included a new Gator hard-shell case. Examples like this help illustrate the consistency and longevity of King 3B production across decades.
The Brass Exchange has been serving brass players and collectors since 2010, preserving historically important instruments and helping musicians evaluate, trade, and consign vintage brass.
