King 2B Liberty S/N 192,XXX, made in the late 1930s, is a true pre-WWII classic—part of the early production era that helped define the 2B legacy. This is one of the earliest 2B Liberty models we’ve ever offered, and despite its age, it remains in strong playing condition.
This horn has received full shop service here at The Brass Exchange, including internal cleaning and slide adjustment. The handslide is in good shape, with no plating loss, good alignment, and smooth action. While the horn has no dents or dings, there is a small crack in the bell flare area, likely due to natural metal thinning over time or a possible historic repair. It does not affect playability and has been factored into the price.
Tonally, this 2B still plays like a proper Liberty model—bright, punchy, and lively, with the classic lightweight feel that made these horns a go-to choice for early jazz and dance band players. It would make an excellent choice for someone seeking an affordable vintage small bore horn, or a backup gig horn with character and history.
Offered here without a case, but packed with care for shipping. This is a rare opportunity to own a pre-WWII King 2B at a budget-friendly price.
Q: Is a King 2B with a bell crack still playable?
Yes—if the crack is minor and the horn has been serviced, a small crack in the bell flare doesn’t necessarily affect playability. This one has been checked and play-tested. It still delivers that classic 2B tone and response. We’ve priced it accordingly to reflect the condition.
This vintage trombone has been sold and is now shown as part of our Archive of Sold Instruments, available as a reference for collectors, students, and jazz historians researching King Liberty models.
