Is the Kanstul 1585 a good first bass trombone?
Yes. Its lighter weight and balanced feel make it less demanding than many larger bass trombones, while the independent Thayer valves provide full low register access. An advancing student or serious player will find it a great fit.
How does this compare to Getzen, Edwards, or Shires bass trombones?
While those makers are highly regarded, the Kanstul 1585 offers similar professional performance at a lower pre-owned cost, with the added advantage of being lighter in overall weight.
