This Holton Revelation tenor trombone from the 1920s is an outstanding example of early American trombone craftsmanship. Featuring a 7.5" bell and a .515 bore handslide, this model was considered a large instrument for its time β€” especially in an era when smaller bore trombones were far more common in dance bands and small ensembles.

The instrument retains all original parts and plating, and it remains in excellent overall condition. The handslide is very straight and responsive, with no signs of previous damage or repair. Despite its age, this trombone plays beautifully, offering a dark, clear, and centered tone that stands out in both solo and ensemble contexts.

During the 1920s, the Holton Revelation series represented some of the company’s most advanced designs. Frank Holton & Co., founded in Chicago in 1898 and later moved to Elkhorn, Wisconsin, was known for producing high-quality brass instruments favored by both professional and military bands. The Revelation line was considered innovative for its larger bell sizes and broader sound, which allowed players to project more effectively in orchestral and concert settings.

Today, a Holton Revelation like this would make an excellent choice for traditional jazz (trad jazz), early swing, or New Orleans-style playing. Its rich, warm tone offers a distinct character that modern instruments often lack, appealing to players seeking a vintage sound and authentic historical experience.

The instrument was offered with its original case, preserving its vintage appeal and making it an attractive piece for collectors as well as performers.
