HOLTON

Holton Stratodyne Model 67.  This is an amazing small bore jazz/commerical style tromobone.  It was made in the early 1960's, most likely 63' according to the serial number.  It has a .485 bore size, but feels and plays much larger.  It feels more like a .500.  Has a 7.5 gold brass bell with fancy deco style engraving.   Some people consider Holton Gold Brass Bells to be actually Rose Brass, but that is a matter of opinion.  We find that red brass or rose brass bells have a higher copper content than gold brass.  An example of a rose brass bell would be a Conn 88H.  Regardless of whether this bell was originally referred to as gold, bronze, or rose brass, it doesn't really matter because it is gorgeous and plays fantastic.  The lightweight nickel silver slide is in perfect condition, straight inners-outers, no drag or tension, no plating wear on the inners.  This horn plays very easily and would be an excellent alternative to a jazz guy looking to find his individual sound.  Plays very warm and has a hint of darkness in the sound, as one would expect with gold brass, but it can also really sizzle when you ask it to.  There is a small ding on the tuning slide which will be taken out prior to delivery.  Original case in excellent condition, also includes original Holton Mouthpiece.  This is a very rare instrument and could be the horn of a lifetime for the right player.
