Slightly Used Getzen Eterna Model 998 Silver Valve Trombone in exceptional condition, SN G25751. This professional-level instrument was made in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and is now discontinued—making it increasingly rare to find one like this. It has seen very little play and has never been damaged. We completed full shop service here including chemical bath and full inspection. Silver plating has been freshly polished and gleams like new.
The bell is 7.75" yellow brass, paired with a .486 bore valve section. The tone is brilliant, clean, and energetic. The valve response is smooth and tight—just what you’d expect from a top-tier American-made horn. This model is ideal for trumpet doublers, horn section players, or anyone needing a high-quality valve trombone in jazz, commercial, or Latin settings.
Valve trombones like this are especially useful in school bands where not enough slide players are available. A baritone or euphonium player can transition effortlessly, since the fingering system is identical. Unlike upright bell baritones, the Getzen valve trombone blends visually and sonically with a trombone section.
This model is also a smart choice for soloists or improvisers who want to explore phrasing and technique not possible on a slide trombone. Bob Brookmeyer, one of jazz’s most iconic valve trombonists, demonstrated just how expressive these instruments can be in creative hands.
Includes original Getzen case, paperwork, and mouthpiece. Ships ready to play with no service needed. One of the finest valve trombones we’ve ever had in the shop.
✅ Why are Getzen valve trombones like the Eterna 998 so hard to find?
The Getzen Eterna 998 was discontinued years ago, and most valve trombones made today are entry-level imports. The 998 stands apart as a high-quality American-made instrument with excellent craftsmanship, reliable valve action, and great tone. For jazz, commercial, or educational use, it’s one of the few professional valve trombones still in circulation—and a rare opportunity for serious players.
