EDWARDS
Edwards Custom Bass- Thayer Independent
Included
bass bore
9.5

This Edwards bass trombone, built in the mid-1990s, is in superb, mint condition and represents a rare opportunity to own a nearly pristine early production model. It was played lightly for only two years in college before being stored for over 16 years. The horn has been recently cleaned, serviced, and tested — and it performs with authority and refinement.

Equipped with original patent-pending Thayer valves (F/Gb/D tuning), this setup offers excellent balance, fast release, and an even feel between valve combinations. It mirrors the current B454 model in function and layout. The bell is a #1277 9.5" “Red” gold brass bell, producing a dark, warm core sound with impressive projection and control. The horn feels like a wall of sound when pushed — ideal for orchestral, symphonic band, or large ensemble settings.

The slide is an early 1990s Bach 50 single bore (.562) model, modified with a collar and three removable leadpipes. The slide is flawless in feel and appearance. The original Edwards/Getzen hard case is included and in excellent condition. According to the original owner, the case never left his house — he used a lightweight Protec case for transport, which is also available (shipping cost only).

Buying an Edwards bass trombone today typically requires a visit to the factory and a wait of 6+ months. This instrument is ready to play now and offers both heritage value and professional performance.

Why are early Edwards bass trombones like this one so sought after?
Edwards bass trombones from the 1990s are prized for their build quality, flexibility, and tonal richness.
