CONN

This Conn 110H Bass Trombone features a custom upgrade that sets it apart: an independent valve section repurposed from a Benge 290, giving it full Bb/F/Gb/D functionality. Originally designed as a single valve instrument, the conversion was done by a previous owner who performed on it extensively before recently upgrading. The result is a reliable and responsive bass trombone that blends Conn build quality with the unique airflow of the Benge system.

It has a large 10" rose brass bell, silver plated, offering warmth, clarity, and projection across all registers. The handslide is a brass slide, also silver plated, and in very good playing condition. No damage to the bell section—just natural cosmetic aging. The horn has undergone a complete in-shop clean-up and servicing and is ready for continued use.

This trombone plays with the depth and breadth you’d expect from a full-size American-made bass. It’s ideal for advancing students, adult doublers, or a serious player who needs an all-purpose horn for band, orchestra, or jazz ensemble. With a balance of projection, ease of response, and versatility, this one is a great option in a market where pre-owned U.S.-made bass trombones under $2,500 are increasingly hard to find.

Includes the original Conn hard case in good condition.

This unique setup is now part of our Archive of Sold Instruments and serves as a reference for those researching customized and modified Conn bass trombones.

Why would a player choose a bass trombone with a custom valve section?
Instruments like this allow for independent tuning flexibility at a lower cost than factory dual-valve options. Many pros and students alike find that well-done conversions—like this one—can offer tonal and ergonomic advantages while staying within budget.
