CONN

The Conn 88HO is the open wrap version of Conn’s legendary 88H — a model originally introduced in the late 1950s for Emory Remington, Professor at the Eastman School of Music. The open wrap version, offering a more free-blowing F-attachment, was introduced in the 1990s and remains one of Conn’s top-selling professional symphonic tenor trombones to this day.

This instrument (SN 139100) is approximately 10 years old, but was only played for about 4 years, making it a well-preserved example with minimal wear. It features:

  • 8.5" rose brass bell

  • Open wrap rotor valve F-attachment

  • .547 bore standard weight handslide

  • Large shank mouthpiece receiver (mouthpiece not included)

We performed a full shop service here, including chemical bath and full inspection. Minor dings in the tuning slide and mute impressions were professionally removed. The slide was adjusted for optimal action, and no further service is needed to improve either playability or appearance. The horn retains all original parts and lacquer.

This model sells new for over $3,400 today — and this one offers the same performance at a much better value. It’s a perfect fit for advancing students or serious players looking for their first pro-level symphonic horn. Band directors across the U.S. routinely recommend the 88HO due to its reliability and timeless tone.

Includes the original case.

What are the benefits of the open wrap design on the Conn 88HO?
The open wrap F-attachment on the 88HO provides a straighter airflow path, reducing resistance when the valve is engaged. This makes transitions smoother and allows for a more even sound across all registers. Compared to the traditional wrap, players often describe the open wrap as feeling more “open” and “free-blowing,” especially in large ensemble settings.
