Conn 88H Elkhart Era SN N46126.
Made in 1970, the final year of Conn’s legendary Elkhart, Indiana production period. This is the classic large bore tenor trombone that countless professional players have built their careers on since its introduction in the 1950s.
We’ve seen many Elkhart 88H horns over the years—but rarely in this condition. This one is truly pristine, with all original lacquer and parts, and absolutely no defects or blemishes. It received full shop service here at The Brass Exchange, including chemical bath and thorough inspection. It plays as beautifully as it looks.
Once you hear and feel the warmth of the rose brass bell, you’ll understand why these horns have remained so coveted. The tone is rich and powerful, ideal for orchestra, band, solo, or chamber music performance.
8.5" rose brass bell with unsoldered rim
.547 bore gold brass slide with nickel silver end crook
Large shank mouthpiece receiver (original Remington taper Conn mouthpiece included)
Original Conn case, excellent condition
Conn still manufactures the 88H today using the traditional wrap, and new models sell for over $3,400 at most dealers. But this one isn’t a modern replica—it's the real thing, made in Elkhart at the end of an iconic era.
What makes the Elkhart Conn 88H more desirable than modern versions?
Elkhart-built 88H trombones are widely recognized for their exceptional craftsmanship, tonal richness, and build quality. The original rose brass bell and traditional slide materials contribute to a sound that many players find more vibrant and nuanced than newer models. Collectors and pros alike value the Elkhart-era horns for their playability and vintage authenticity.
This 88H has been sold and now appears here as a historical reference for professional trombonists and Conn collectors.
