CONN

This rare Conn 76H is a new old stock find from the 1980s — a true time capsule. It came to us from a trombone-playing music store employee who discovered it preserved in storage, never sold and never previously owned. The horn is in flawless condition: perfect lacquer, no dents or dings, and an exceptionally smooth handslide. It includes the original factory hard case, Conn mouthpiece, and original paperwork, all in pristine shape.

The 76H features a .522 medium bore and a larger 8.5" yellow brass bell, making it very similar to the legendary Conn 78H (.522 bore with 8" bell) but with a slightly broader tonal presence. It takes a small shank mouthpiece — the original is included. While this model wasn’t marketed as a student instrument, it functions beautifully as an entry-level professional horn and is remarkably approachable for developing players. The medium bore design offers less resistance, which opens up the middle and lower registers while still producing a clear, resonant high range.

In a world where even student trombones can cost as much or more than this, the 76H stands out as a smart long-term investment. A younger player could comfortably use it through middle school, high school, and beyond, developing tone, technique, and confidence on a well-built instrument. It’s an ideal choice for concert band, jazz ensemble, or marching band, especially for students who prefer to play without an F-attachment.

Condition: No service needs. We performed a final slide setup and inspection.

❓ FAQ

Is this Conn 76H suitable for a younger student?
Yes. While the 76H is more of an entry-level professional model, its medium bore and easy response make it accessible to advancing younger players. It’s a great step-up choice for students who want to build strong fundamentals on a higher-quality instrument.

How does the 76H compare to the Conn 78H?
Both share the .522 medium bore, but the 76H has a slightly larger 8.5" bell (the 78H was typically 8"). This gives the 76H a slightly broader tone while retaining the agility and clarity that made the 78H a classic.
