Classic Conn 6H tenor trombone made during the Elkhart era, serial number 9234867, dating to 1961 β a time widely regarded as the peak of Connβs craftsmanship. Instruments from this period are considered some of the finest American-made trombones ever produced and remain highly sought after by serious players and collectors.
This horn features the classic 8" yellow brass bell with an unsoldered rim, known for producing a warm, brilliant sound that works beautifully in jazz and commercial playing. The handslide is a .500 bore, built with gold brass outer tubes and a nickel silver end crook, offering excellent flexibility and projection.
While the horn shows considerable lacquer wear on the outer bell and slide (a common characteristic for vintage workhorses of this age), it is a very straight instrument and plays exactly as it should. The handslide underwent a professional rebuild using all the original parts, performed by one of the best slide technicians in the country.
A particularly interesting detail: during the rebuild, the tech reversed the outer slide tubes, so the serial number stamp β normally on the bottom outer slide tube β now appears on the top. In addition, all tension was removed, and the inner surfaces of the outer slide tubes were meticulously polished, resulting in a slide that "plays like a dream."
The main tuning slide was replaced with a new crook and re-lacquered, ensuring solid tuning stability and reliability.

How can a professional slide rebuild transform a vintage trombone?
A pro slide rebuild removes tension, polishes surfaces, and corrects subtle alignment issues, resulting in smoother action and better overall playability β often exceeding the feel of many modern slides.
