Overview
This 1966 Conn 6H Elkhart-era jazz trombone is an excellent example of why the model remains a benchmark for medium-bore players. The instrument retained its original lacquer and original components throughout and received full professional shop service prior to its sale.
Service included a complete chemical bath and detailed mechanical inspection so the horn played cleanly, efficiently, and predictably from the first note. The trombone included its original 1960s Conn hard case, which remained in very good condition for its age. A mouthpiece was not included.
Player Perspective
Having handled well over a hundred Conn 6H trombones through The Brass Exchange, this example distinguished itself where it matters most β the slide.
Action was smooth, quiet, and exceptionally well aligned, with clean inner tubes and correct geometry end-to-end. That level of precision is not guaranteed even among otherwise attractive vintage 6Hs.
What players consistently respond to in a great 6H is immediacy: clean articulation, centered pitch, and a tone that stays focused even when pushed. This horn delivered exactly that, allowing players to concentrate on phrasing and sound rather than managing resistance.
