CONN

This is a 1970s Conn 5H tenor trombone, a professional-level model built during one of Conn’s most consistent periods for brass production. The 5H features an 8" yellow brass bell and a .500 bore lightweight yellow brass handslide with nickel silver endcrook. It is often compared to the more well-known Conn 6H — and for good reason. The two models share the same bell and valve architecture, with the primary difference being the handslide construction. The 6H typically uses standard-weight outer slide tubes in gold brass, whereas the 5H employs lighter yellow brass tubing, resulting in a slightly brighter and quicker response.

This particular horn plays very well. The slide has been properly set up, with excellent alignment and no tension or drag. The inner slide plating shows some mild cosmetic wear, but it is smooth and does not affect performance — and this is reflected in the price. The horn has not suffered damage or undergone major repair, and overall it's structurally sound and well cared for.

Why consider the Conn 5H over modern student trombones?
For players looking to upgrade from a student-line horn, or for a young jazz player ready to move into pro gear, the Conn 5H offers tremendous value. It plays with more depth and color than most beginner models on the market today — and at a lower price. These horns were built in the same tradition as the legendary 6H and are interchangeable in terms of bell/slide compatibility. This makes the 5H a great platform for future upgrades as well. Includes the original case (in fair condition), a Yamaha mouthpiece, and slide lubricant — a complete ready-to-play outfit.
