Conn 5G Valve Trombone – Vintage .500 Bore Jazz Model, Real Player

This vintage Conn 5G Valve Trombone dates to the 1980s and offers a classic .500 bore design with an 8" yellow brass bell. Built with Conn’s well-known craftsmanship and playability, this Bb valve trombone is ideal for the player seeking a solid all-around valve model with jazz roots.

The valve section plays fast and freely. While this model is most often associated with jazz and commercial playing, it’s absolutely suitable for many settings—including concert band doubling, brass ensembles, and high school or college jazz band use.

Many schools, especially smaller programs, appreciate valve trombones like the 5G because they allow baritone or trumpet players to easily switch over and fill in for a trombone part. The compact feel, front-facing design, and easy slotting make it a natural crossover instrument.

This is a true working player’s horn—perfect for jazz band participation or as a second horn for a brass player who occasionally needs a valve trombone voice.

Where and how is a valve trombone used today?
Valve trombones are frequently used by jazz musicians, especially trumpet players looking for an easy double. They’re also a practical solution in school bands when slide trombone players are limited—allowing baritone or euphonium players to transition quickly and fill out the section.
