CONN

Conn 50H Trombone Vintage Elkhart, Indiana.
SN N36934, made approximately 1970 — the final year of production at the historic Elkhart, Indiana factory. This model features an 8.5" yellow brass bell paired with a .522 bore brass slide and takes a small shank trombone mouthpiece.

Originally designed and marketed as an intermediate or "step-up" trombone for advancing students, the 50H surprises many players today. When you play it, it feels and sounds just like a pro-level vintage Conn from the golden Elkhart era. Nothing about this instrument suggests compromise in quality compared to the professional models Conn offered to top players over the years.

This trombone would make an excellent choice for anyone looking for a medium bore tenor with F attachment, but who does not want to jump straight to a larger .547 bore horn. A small shank mouthpiece, particularly something in the 6 1/2 range (like a 6 1/2AL), is ideal. Many students move directly from a small bore beginner instrument to a full large-bore tenor like a Bach 42B, missing out on developing finesse in their upper register. Smaller bore trombones in the .522–.525 range share many playing characteristics with larger tenors but offer a more accessible, less demanding feel.

In addition, this size works beautifully for commercial style players who want an F attachment without going all the way up to a .547 or using a compact model like a 3BF.

This particular example has all original parts and lacquer. We performed a full shop service, including chemical bath cleaning, slide alignment, rotor service, and minor cosmetic detailing. There are no dents or dings, and it is a straight, clean instrument in excellent playing condition. The slide action is smooth, the rotor is quick and open, and the horn blows easily with a vibrant, centered sound. Original case included.
