Conn 50H SN M151154, made in the 1960s at the Elkhart factory, is a medium bore tenor trombone originally marketed to advancing students โ but when played today, it feels much more like a professional vintage Conn. With the 8.5" yellow brass bell and .522 bore brass slide, this model bridges the gap between student ease and pro-level tone quality.
It uses a small shank mouthpiece, making it a responsive and easy-to-control option for players seeking a more compact feel with solid tonal output. While officially an โintermediateโ model, the 50H shares much of the craftsmanship and design heritage of Connโs professional horns from the same era.
We completed a full shop service, including chemical bath and inspection. All parts and lacquer are original. The slide has no plating loss, and the action is smooth and free. The valve works well โ quick and open, with no mechanical issues. There are a few minor blemishes and dings, but nothing that affects performance or structural integrity. It remains in very good playing condition overall.
This would make an excellent step-up trombone for a young student, or even an adult looking to explore vintage American horns with F-attachment versatility. Itโs a reliable, well-built horn with that unmistakable Elkhart-era Conn sound. Original case is included.
Is the Conn 50H a good choice for a student or casual adult player?
Absolutely. While originally built for students, the Conn 50H benefits from the same build quality as Connโs professional horns from the Elkhart era. Itโs easy to play, has a solid low register thanks to the F-attachment, and feels more โproโ than many modern student horns. Itโs a great fit for anyone wanting a dependable vintage horn with classic character.
