Vintage Archive – Conn 4H Gold-Plated Trombone with Naked Lady Engraving
This rare Conn 4H trombone from the 1920s features one of the most ornate bell engravings we’ve ever seen on a vintage Conn. The iconic “Naked Lady” engraving is fully intact and crisply rendered, matched by the horn’s original gold-plated finish—a true example of vintage American craftsmanship from Conn’s early golden era.

All parts are original, including the period-correct case, and the instrument has been carefully preserved. It’s a remarkable piece not only for collectors but also for serious players looking for a unique tonal signature.

What makes a 1920s Conn 4H stand out in today's market?
While many players know the 6H as Conn’s flagship jazz model, the 4H offers a slightly smaller bore and tighter wrap, resulting in a more focused sound with exceptional projection. This one, in particular, delivers a sound that cuts through with clarity, making it suitable for small group work, recording, or period-accurate performance.

Despite its age, this instrument is very much playable today. The response is lively, and the tone is vibrant and centered—a testament to the build quality of Conn instruments during this time.

Visually, the gold plating has aged beautifully and highlights the engraving in a way that draws immediate attention. Without question, this horn ranks among the most visually striking vintage Conn models we’ve had at The Brass Exchange.

Now residing in our Sold Archive, this Conn 4H remains a reference point for rare jazz trombones with artistic and historical value.
