Conn 48H Vintage Elkhart, made in 1968, SN L11604.
This Conn 48H is a top-tier .500 bore jazz and commercial trombone from the Elkhart era. Built in 1968, it features an 8" nickel silver bell paired with a lightweight yellow brass slide. All parts and lacquer are original. The horn has just come through our shop for full service including chemical bath, once-over, and careful slide tuning.
The handslide is a standoutβfast and aligned with no plating loss on the inner tubes and excellent response. Structurally straight with no major trauma. While there is lacquer wear throughout, the horn still presents beautifully and has an unmistakably vintage Conn aesthetic.
Sonically, it shares much with the better-known 6H but offers a slightly mellower tonal profile due to the nickel bellβless brilliance in the upper overtone stack and a touch more warmth. A great choice for players seeking classic Conn feel with a slightly darker edge.
Included is a brand-new Marco Magi NN-TKR case, made in Italy, and custom-fitted for small tenor trombones up to 8β bell. View case details β
What makes the Conn 48H unique among vintage jazz trombones?
Unlike the 6H, the 48H features a nickel-silver bell that subtly shifts the tonal character. Itβs still punchy and vibrant, but with slightly reduced upper brightness, making it a great pick for players who want classic Conn playability with added color and nuance.
