CONN

Conn 48H Jazz Trombone, serial number L36587, made in the 1960s Elkhart, Indiana. This model was part of the famed Connstellation series—one of Conn’s most iconic designs for commercial and jazz players. Features include a .500 bore handslide, 8" bell, and nickel-silver detailing.

This horn has received full shop service, including a chemical bath and full mechanical once-over. Structurally, it’s straight and sound, with a responsive slide and proper alignment. There is some smooth plating wear on one inner slide tube, and considerable lacquer wear—mostly on the handslide—reflected in the price. A mint-condition 48H would sell for much more.

Despite its cosmetic wear, this horn plays great and would be a strong choice for:

  • Advancing jazz and commercial players

  • Marching band trombonists looking for a distinctive tone and appearance

  • Conn collectors or those seeking a budget-friendly .500 bore pro model

The bell section is also compatible with other Conn slides, including the 6H, 77H, and even Director models. That makes it an appealing option for Conn enthusiasts looking to mix and match components.

Includes a lightweight, black nylon Protec-style case.

Q: Why choose a 48H for marching or jazz use?
A: The 48H’s bright, focused tone cuts well in outdoor or ensemble settings. The unique bell finish (silver or red brass, depending on era) also makes it easier to visually distinguish during parades or performances—especially when others are playing yellow brass horns.

This Conn 48H has been sold and is now displayed as a historical reference for vintage trombone enthusiasts and Conn collectors.
