Overview

This Bach Corporation New York era 11C gold-plated trombone mouthpiece, produced prior to 1953, has now been sold and is preserved here as part of The Brass Exchange historical reference archive. Mouthpieces from the New York manufacturing period are widely respected for their craftsmanship, consistency, and distinctive playing feel, and are increasingly difficult to locate in original condition.

It has long been believed that Bill Watrous performed on a New York era 11C, helping cement the model’s reputation among jazz trombonists and collectors. While individual provenance is rarely documented for vintage mouthpieces, this association has made the New York era 11C one of the most respected small-shank Bach designs.

This example retained its original gold plating with light, natural wear consistent with age. Gold-plated New York era Bach mouthpieces are considered rare finds, valued both for their collectible status and for their comfortable response and clarity when played.
