✦ Historical Perspective & Overview
The Bach Model 8LT tenor trombone represents a later evolution of the Bach Model 8 concept, a small bore jazz-oriented instrument originally developed during the Mount Vernon era.
This particular example dates from the late 1990s and remained in exceptionally clean condition when it passed through The Brass Exchange. The instrument came from a single-owner collection belonging to a former Conn employee, a player who maintained a small group of carefully selected instruments.
Within the Bach lineup, the Model 8LT sits between the Model 6 and Model 12, combining elements of both designs. The instrument features a 7.5″ bell similar to the Bach 12 and Bach 16, paired with a .490 bore LT nickel silver handslide that provides a responsive and lively playing feel.
This example retained all original components, including the factory case, and showed no signs of previous damage or repair. The instrument had clearly been well cared for throughout its life.

✦ Further Reading
The Bach Model 8 and 8LT designs occupy an interesting place in the Bach small bore lineup. While the Model 12 and Model 16 became more widely known jazz and commercial instruments, the Model 8 remained a somewhat lesser-known alternative with a distinctive playing character.
Players often describe the 8LT as a lively and responsive instrument, well suited for jazz lead playing, commercial work, and studio performance. The lightweight LT slide helps create quick response and a focused tone while maintaining flexibility across the instrument’s range.
Because these models were never produced in the same volume as some other Bach small bore designs, they are encountered less frequently than the more common Model 12 or Model 16.
