This Bach 42BO represents one of the most iconic large-bore tenor trombones in the modern orchestral world. It features Bach’s hallmark open wrap F-attachment and a lightweight LT nickel silver handslide paired with a gold brass bell, producing the rich, colorful sound the 42 series is known for while offering nimble slide response. This particular example came to The Brass Exchange in excellent playing condition and was given a complete professional service before being offered for sale, including a full cleaning, slide alignment, and minor adjustments to ensure optimal performance.

Players choose the 42BO for its dark, resonant orchestral core and flexible tonal color — it can broaden into a warm, velvety sound at soft dynamics or open up with brilliance when pushed. The LT nickel slide lightens the overall feel and gives it a quicker response compared to a standard brass slide, while the gold brass bell adds warmth and depth, making this combination especially appealing for orchestral, solo, and chamber settings.

Cosmetically, the bell section showed some typical lacquer wear, but this was purely aesthetic and had no effect on performance. The slide was described as fantastic, with no room for improvement, and the horn required no further mechanical work. It included the original Bach case (mouthpiece not included).

This model remains one of the most popular Bach professional trombones of all time. A brand-new 42BO with this configuration currently retails for well over $4000, making this gently used example an exceptional value when it was sold.
