This early 1980s Bach 42B tenor trombone is a fine example of the traditional wrap .547 bore that has defined large-bore tenor design for generations. Built around 1983, this horn is in all-original condition with its original lacquer and parts. It has been freshly cleaned and serviced, and the handslide is perfectly aligned and plays with excellent response.

This was a single-owner instrument, played with care and maintained properly over the years. It has no mechanical issues, dents, or damage requiring attention β€” it’s fully ready for performance. The tone is exactly what you'd expect from a Bach of this era: centered, warm, and rich, with the classic resistance profile that so many players associate with the β€œreal” 42B feel.

Why has the Bach 42B remained one of the most popular tenor trombones of all time? It all starts with the right specs β€” an 8.5" bell paired with a .547" bore slide, the combination that gives this horn its signature voice. Players often describe its upper overtones as almost magical, carrying palpable emotion and expression with every phrase. That unique blend of warmth, projection, and that β€œsinging” quality in the high register is what keeps musicians hooked decade after decade.

This instrument would be a great upgrade for an advancing student or a working player in need of a reliable second horn. Mouthpiece not included, giving you the flexibility to choose your preferred setup.

Another solid example of a vintage Bach trombone that’s built to perform and made to last.
