Bach

This is a unique Bach 42B large bore tenor trombone built around the 1980s, paired with a factory-new Edwards dual-bore (.525/.547) handslide. The Edwards slide includes a sterling silver leadpipe and an additional brass leadpipe, giving players the option to tailor response and tone to their preference.

The 42B bell section has undergone a full professional service and chemical cleaning in our shop and is in excellent playing condition. The Edwards slide is brand new and defect-free, offering crisp response and exceptional alignment right out of the case.

This combination produces a feel slightly more compact than a traditional straight .547 Bach 42B, yet still offers a full, rich sound with surprising breadth—especially when paired with the sterling silver leadpipe, which adds stability, clarity, and centered tone. It’s an outstanding setup for principal parts, chamber or pit orchestra work, or for a developing student moving into their first F-attachment trombone.

The handslide is fast and smooth, the valve is quiet and responsive, and the overall setup encourages ease of play in the upper range while retaining depth and presence in the lower register. The horn comes in its original utility-grade 1980s Bach case, which remains fully functional for transport and storage.

🤔 How does a dual-bore slide affect playability?

A dual-bore slide gradually expands from .525 to .547, giving the horn a slightly lighter initial response while still maintaining the depth and projection of a full .547. Many players find it adds flexibility and ease in the upper register without sacrificing power.

🤔 Why pair a Bach bell with an Edwards slide?

Edwards slides are known for their precision alignment and smooth feel, often considered among the best modern slides available. Pairing one with a Bach 42B bell can enhance response and consistency, especially if the original slide is worn or if a slightly different blow is desired.
