Overview

This Bach 42 large bore tenor trombone, serial number 137988, was made in the early 1990s and comes from a one-owner background. It’s a clean, honest instrument that has been played but well cared for—no surprises here.

We’ve completed full shop service, including a chemical bath and slide preparation. There is no prior damage history—just routine maintenance. The handslide is in excellent alignment and plays fast and easy, exactly what you want in a straight large bore tenor.

This is the classic Bach 42 configuration: standard weight .547 bore slide paired with an 8.5" yellow brass bell. It delivers the familiar Bach core—centered, stable, and dependable across the range.

For players who don’t need an F attachment, this is a very practical setup. Ideal for a principal player on literature that stays above the trigger range, or for a jazz/commercial player who prefers a large bore feel without the added resistance of a valve section.

Takes a large shank mouthpiece (not included).

Player Perspective

A straight 42 like this has a different feel than a 42B. The response is a bit more immediate, and the horn feels more direct without the weight and airflow changes of the valve section.

From a playing standpoint, this is a great option for:

  • Orchestral players covering literature without trigger demands
  • Section players who want a clean, stable large tenor
  • Jazz or commercial players stepping into a .547 setup

There’s nothing complicated here—it’s just a solid, well-playing Bach 42 that does what it’s supposed to do.
