Overview
This Vincent Bach 36LT straight tenor trombone, serial number 114603, was produced in the early 1990s and features a lightweight nickel-silver handslide paired with an 8" yellow brass bell finished in custom satin lacquer. The slide retains its original lacquer over nickel silver and features a .525 medium bore with a standard small-shank receiver.
The Bach 36LT remains one of the most respected medium-bore straight tenor trombones in the Bach lineup, offering quick response, centered tone, and excellent flexibility across multiple playing styles. This example has been prepared and tested here in our shop and is in excellent playing condition with no major flaws or structural concerns.
For players seeking a professional straight tenor without an F-attachment, the 36LT fills an important role. It works very well in jazz and commercial settings, brass quintet, chamber playing, and lighter orchestral literature where a full .547 bore setup may not be necessary. Many players also appreciate the 36LT as a classic “Bolero-style” straight tenor because of its immediacy and efficient response.
We have handled many Bach 36 models over the years, and this is a particularly strong-playing example with smooth slotting, balanced feel, and even response throughout the range.
Player Perspective
The Bach 36LT occupies a unique place in the Bach lineup. Compared to larger orchestral tenors, the lightweight slide and medium-bore setup give the instrument a quicker feel with less resistance while still maintaining a broad and centered Bach sound.
Players moving between jazz, commercial work, chamber music, and occasional orchestral playing often appreciate the versatility of the 36LT platform. This example responds very evenly and feels comfortable immediately, especially for players who prefer a more agile straight tenor setup.
The custom satin lacquer finish also gives the horn a distinctive visual appearance compared to standard lacquer Bach models from the same period.
