Bach

The Bach 36BO Professional Players Convertible Model offers the best of both worlds — a true open-wrap F-attachment for orchestral or large-ensemble work and a removable straight-neck conversion with balance weight for a lighter, more traditional feel in solo, chamber, or jazz settings.

This horn, serial 178764, was built approximately 2000–2005 and is in excellent pre-owned condition.
It features the classic 8″ yellow-brass bell, a .525-bore standard-weight handslide, yellow-brass tuning slide, and a removable open-wrap F-attachment.
The included straight-neck and balance weight allow quick conversion to a pure tenor setup.

The slide action is outstanding — smooth, quiet, and fast — a reflection of the care it received from its previous professional-orchestra owner.
There are no dents, no signs of prior damage, and the lacquer finish remains excellent, nearly pristine.

Historically, the Bach 36 bore size was the professional standard in major U.S. orchestras before the mid-1950s, when larger-bore equipment began to dominate after Conn introduced the 88H and Bach followed with the 42B.
For players who appreciate the responsive, centered feel of a medium-bore instrument, the 36BO offers both that traditional voice and the modern flexibility of an open-wrap F-attachment.

This instrument comes with a brown Protec Propac case in very good condition, providing reliable protection for travel and storage.

An ideal choice for the advancing student, working freelancer, or professional who needs a single horn to cover both straight-tenor and F-attachment roles,

As of 2025, a factory-new Bach 36BO sells for over $4,100, with open-box models offered for slightly less.
However, those do not include both the removable straight-neckpipe and the balance weight, together worth an estimated $400 in additional retail value.
Our price for this professionally owned, fully serviced 36BO — with no issues and flawless slide action — represents a tremendous value for players ready to experience the classic Bach 36 performance.

FAQs

What makes the 36BO different from a standard 36?
The 36BO includes an open-wrap F-attachment for freer airflow and easier low-range response, plus a removable straight-neck so it can be played as a classic tenor.

Is the .525-bore size versatile for multiple playing styles?
Yes. It bridges the gap between smaller-bore jazz tenors and full .547-bore symphonic horns, making it suitable for most ensemble and solo situations.

Why is historical context of the Bach 36 important?
Before the mid-1950s, the 36 bore size was the primary choice for U.S. professional orchestras.
Understanding that heritage explains the model’s balanced feel and enduring popularity.

How is the slide condition?
The slide action is flawless — smooth, aligned, and responsive — meeting professional performance standards.

What is included with this trombone?
A brown Protec Propac case in very good condition is included.
A mouthpiece is not listed; players can use their preferred mouthpiece.
