Bach

Bach 36B SN 97142, super mint example made in 1990. Features the traditional rotor valve, standard weight slide (.525" bore), and an 8" yellow brass bell. The 36B is one of the most popular tenor trombone models ever produced and remains in production today. This particular instrument was owned by a single adult player and shows minimal use — lacquer is nearly perfect, the handslide is flawless, and there are no dents or dings. The rotor functions exceptionally well.

The Bach 36B is an ideal choice for professional or advancing players looking for a slightly smaller bore than the typical .547" large-bore tenor. This size offers a more accessible upper register and generally requires less effort, making it a favorite among experienced players transitioning to lighter setups.

This example included the original wood-shell, leather-wrapped case in perfect condition.

Why do some players prefer the Bach 36B over larger tenor trombones?
A: Many players choose the Bach 36B for its medium bore (.525"), which offers a balance of warmth and focus. It makes the upper register more accessible and requires slightly less air support, appealing to advancing students and experienced professionals seeking flexibility in various playing settings. The Bach 36B takes a small shank mouthpiece, most commonly a 6 1/2 size, which provides a comfortable, centered sound. However, it also works very well with larger mouthpieces like a 5G or even a 4G. With these larger mouthpieces, the 36B can play and sound surprisingly similar to a .547" large bore trombone — to most listeners, the difference can be almost indistinguishable.
