This vintage Vincent Bach Stradivarius Model 36 trombone, serial #67, is an exceptional early New York example dating from around 1950—possibly even the late 1940s. It features a yellow brass standard-weight bell, matching tuning slide, and a standard weight yellow brass handslide, all in original configuration and excellent condition.

The slide has been fully adjusted and optimized for smooth, fast action. While the horn may have received a light overhaul many years ago, it has been preserved with remarkable care and now sits in outstanding playing shape. The lacquer has that classic aged Bach look, and the overall appearance is consistent with a well-maintained professional instrument.

Tonally, this horn is simply gorgeous. The sound is warm and lyrical, with enough breadth to fill a hall yet enough control to shine in studio and show work. It plays easily and evenly throughout all registers. Originally part of a top-tier orchestra principal player’s collection, this instrument clearly reflects professional-grade standards in both setup and tone.

This model 36 sits in the mid-bore category with a .525 bore size, making it ideal for classical players who want something more agile than a large bore 42, but with more weight and presence than a small bore jazz horn. Whether for symphonic pops, pit orchestra, or solo repertoire, this horn delivers.

Fully chem flushed and cleaned in our shop. Slide was professionally aligned, and no additional service is required—it’s ready to play at the highest level.

What makes the New York Bach 36 different from later models?
Early New York Bachs like this #67 were built in smaller batches with careful attention to taper, metallurgy, and resonance. These horns tend to have a more colorful, nuanced tone compared to later Elkhart or modern versions.

Is the .525 bore of the 36 suitable for orchestral or solo playing?
Yes. The Bach 36 is often favored by players who want the richness of a large bore but the flexibility and comfort of a smaller setup. It blends beautifully in orchestral, chamber, or commercial environments.

Has this horn been serviced recently?
Yes. It received a full chemical flush and cleaning, and the slide has been adjusted for optimal alignment. No further service is needed—this horn is performance ready.
