The King 2B Silversonic is one of the most iconic jazz lead trombones ever produced, and this mid-1960s H.N. White Era example represents the model at its finest. Built in Cleveland, Ohio during King’s golden production years, it features a sterling silver bell with gold-plated inner flare, paired with a lightweight, responsive slide—hallmarks of the 2B Silversonic’s legendary sound.
This horn was purchased new by a professional player and remained in the same hands for decades. Over nearly 60 years, it has been played extensively but never suffered major damage or repair. King’s sterling silver bells were hand-buffed and lacquered at the factory to protect the finish, avoiding the tarnish typical of silver-plated horns. On this example, the lacquer coverage is approximately 75%, with similar retention on the gold inner bell plating—honest cosmetic wear that speaks to its performance history.
The bell and slide are completely straight, with no dents or dings. The inner slide tubes retain their original plating and are perfectly aligned, delivering an exceptionally smooth action. The slide requires no further service. Our shop performed a complete chemical cleaning and mechanical check, confirming it’s ready for stage or studio work.
Tonally, the 2B Silversonic is famed for its bright, projecting lead sound with crisp articulation and rich overtones. In the right hands, it can cut through any ensemble while retaining warmth and color. Many players find the current King Legend Series simply cannot match the craftsmanship, resonance, and feel of these vintage H.N. White builds.
This particular instrument now resides in our Archive of Sold Instruments, preserved for reference by jazz players, collectors, and enthusiasts who value the unmatched character of the original 2B Silversonic.
