This vintage Schilke 66 tuba mouthpiece features the earlier original-profile exterior, distinguished by its flared blank, raised rim section, decorative rings and “SCHILKE 66” stamping across the bowl. Although visually different from the later version, it retains the classic Helleberg-based design for which the Schilke 66 is known.
The Schilke 66 has a 31.52 mm inside cup diameter and a 21/64-inch throat. Its slightly smaller Helleberg-style diameter provides a manageable, centered feel while still supporting a rich tone and substantial volume. It uses a standard large tuba shank and is suitable for B♭, C, E♭ and F tubas, as well as sousaphones with a standard receiver.
This design should particularly appeal to players seeking an all-around Helleberg-style mouthpiece without moving to one of the larger modern orchestral sizes. It may also work well for developing tuba players or low-brass doublers who want a traditional funnel-shaped cup with a somewhat more manageable inside diameter.
This mouthpiece is offered in good condition with no functional issues or defects. It has been personally inspected, thoroughly cleaned, hand polished and machine polished by The Brass Exchange. The rim, cup and shank are ready for immediate use, making this vintage Schilke 66 a strong value compared with the cost of a new silver-plated mouthpiece.
