This Hammond Design 10ML was a professional large-shank tenor trombone mouthpiece developed for orchestral and large-bore playing. The 10-size rim has a published inside diameter of approximately 1.030 inches, placing it in the larger range of Hammond’s tenor trombone line.
The ML is Hammond’s standard all-around cup. Its design combines conical and bowl-shaped characteristics to produce a focused sound with useful tonal color. The large-shank version uses a .281-inch throat and Hammond’s open T4 symphonic backbore, providing the airflow and breadth expected by large-bore tenor trombone players.
Karl Hammond has designed and handcrafted brass mouthpieces for more than 40 years from his shop in Western Springs, Illinois. Hammond mouthpieces have developed a particularly loyal following among professional orchestral musicians, including players in several major American orchestras. The company remains active and sells through both its own shop and authorized dealers.
This silver-plated example was offered in excellent overall condition. The rim and cup were clean and well preserved, with normal plating wear around the shank insertion area from previous use. It was inspected and ready to play.
