This vintage Conn George Roberts large-shank bass trombone mouthpiece was the signature model associated with George Roberts, widely remembered as “Mr. Bass Trombone.” Its design traces back to the oversized Bach 1½G-style mouthpiece originally made for Roberts by Burt Herrick and later reproduced for him by Conn.
The Conn Roberts offered a more traditional and manageable bass trombone setup than many modern oversized mouthpieces. Its deep cup and responsive design supported a broad, centered sound while retaining clarity, articulation and useful access to the upper register. It was particularly well suited to big band, commercial, studio and classic single-valve bass trombone playing.
This example was offered in exceptional condition with no rim defects, shank damage or functional issues. It retained a beautiful silver-plated finish and received full shop service, including professional cleaning and silver polishing. It was an excellent-playing, player-ready example of a desirable vintage Conn signature mouthpiece.
